An Unplanned Pregnancy. An Unexpected Path. A Life Celebrated.

When RJ first walked through the doors of the Pregnancy Resource Center, she described herself as being in a “really tough spot. She was seeking medical care and answers after discovering an unexpected pregnancy. An ultrasound confirmed that she was 6 weeks and 4 days pregnant.

But RJ’s circumstances were especially difficult. She was separated from her husband, sharing custody of their 18-month-old son, struggling financially, and trying to process the painful circumstances surrounding the conception of this new baby.

She was leaning toward abortion.

When Financial Fear Becomes Part of the Decision

As RJ talked with her counselor, one very practical concern became clear: she was already struggling to make ends meet on her own.

“If I were to have the baby, I will be off work six weeks with no income,” she explained.

That was when she learned about Save Unborn Life and the possibility of receiving financial assistance.

Her counselor noticed a change. RJ perked up a little.

The financial support didn't solve everything she was facing—but suddenly, one of the obstacles that made choosing life feel impossible wasn't quite as overwhelming.

This is exactly where Save Unborn Life seeks to make a difference.

By partnering with Pregnancy Resource Centers, we can step into the financial gap when money has become part of a mother's consideration of abortion. Sometimes, meeting one practical need gives a woman the breathing room she needs to see that there may be another way forward.

For RJ, there was another possibility she hadn't even considered.

“Adoption… I Never Thought of That!”

During counseling, RJ said she believed she had only two choices: keep her baby or have an abortion.

Her counselor gently explained that there was a third option—adoption.

RJ's response was immediate:

“Adoption… I never thought of that!”

That conversation opened a door.

She learned about modern open adoption and how she could have a voice in choosing the family who would raise her child. She could meet them, get to know them and create an adoption plan that respected what she wanted for herself and her baby, both now and in the future.

She took information home and continued returning to the center.

Week after week, RJ had a safe place to talk through her feelings, her pregnancy and the difficult circumstances that had brought her there.

And in time, the woman who had initially been leaning toward abortion began planning an open adoption.

A Family Waiting to Celebrate His Life

On December 13, 2024, RJ gave birth to a beautiful baby boy.

She had already chosen his adoptive parents and met with them several times. She asked that they be at the hospital awaiting his birth and that her baby be brought to them in their own hospital room.

The following day, RJ joined them.

She met the grandparents. They took pictures together. And surrounding this little boy was something that had seemed so difficult to imagine in those uncertain first weeks:

A family celebrating his life.

His life had been unplanned.

His conception came from circumstances filled with pain.

But his life was never without value.

And today, he is deeply loved.

This Is Why Save Unborn Life Exists

RJ's story beautifully demonstrates what can happen when compassionate care and practical assistance meet a woman at precisely the right time.

Save Unborn Life did not walk this journey alone. It was the relationship, counseling and continued support provided through the Pregnancy Resource Center that gave RJ a safe place to process an extraordinarily difficult situation. Save Unborn Life was able to come alongside that work and help address one of the very real barriers she faced: finances.

Together, that support helped make room for another possibility.

A mother was empowered to choose life.

An adoption plan was lovingly made.

A family welcomed a son.

And a little boy is here today—loved, cherished and celebrated.

This Christmas, as his family celebrates the incredible gift of his life, we are reminded that the impact of choosing life reaches far beyond a single moment.

One mother. One courageous decision. One precious life. One family forever changed.

At Save Unborn Life, we are grateful to our Pregnancy Resource Center partners and to every donor who makes it possible for us to step into the financial gap when a mother needs help most.

Because sometimes, the support offered today becomes part of a story that will be celebrated for generations.

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.”— Psalm 139:13
